LARNACA - DEMONSTRATION IN FAVOUR OF RUSSIA'S INVASION

 Filenews 26 March 2022

An event in support of the invasion of Russia is held by the "Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots of Cyprus" on the beach of Finikoudes in Larnaca.

The event was attended by about 150 people, mainly Russian residents of Cyprus, while a small number of Cypriots participated.

There was a strong police force in the area, since there was also a small number of Ukrainian refugees chanting an end to the war.

The realization of the event had provoked strong reactions, mainly on social media, since in a post where the invasion was called as "restoration of justice and peace", the organizers invited the people of Cyprus to participate in their event.

Specifically, they said in the post: "The war in Ukraine is a nightmare for all of us. The Russian and Ukrainian people have become victims of a thorough plan that has nurtured neo-Nazism and fascism in a fraternal country. Therefore, Russia, which the planet refused to listen to for many years, took a step forward to protect not only the country, its culture and history, from the destruction of everything Russian, but also for the freedom of the whole world.

"Russia has challenged global evil, restores justice and peace, and supports the traditional values shared by billions of people on the planet. And Russia is now face to face with this "international evil", which was never held responsible for the wars in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Vietnam and Korea. Time to stop Washington! Russia is saving the world, in conditions of totalitarian lies and provocations by the US and NATO media."

It is noted that the post stated that the event will take place with the permission of Larnaka Municipality. A report, however, denied by Larnaka Municipality, hastening to clarify that it did not provide permission, since it is not the competent body for such events and that the Police have been informed about the matter, for the adoption of all appropriate measures.
