KOUKLIA - DISMISSED COMMUNITY PRESIDENT RETURNS TO HIS DUTIES AFTER 11 MONTHS

 Filenews 1 March 2022

Eleven months after the dismissal from his duties by decision of the Minister of Interior, the president of the community of Kouklia, Michalis Nikolaou, returns to them as of today, under a regime of three months of supervision, however.

In a new letter, the Ministry of Interior states that given the extension of the term of office of all local authorities in Cyprus, the president of the K.S. Kouklia will return to his duties from March 1st, but he and the members of the Board will be under control and monitoring for the next three months. The supervision will be exercised by an officer of the District Administration of Pafos, who will inform the Minister of Interior on any matter.

On the state side, it is clarified that regardless of the return of the commune to his position, the investigation into the complaints that led to his dismissal continues on the part of the Police. We would like to remind you that the dismissal of the President of the Community Authority of Kouklia took place on March 18, 2021, when on his instruction the Minister of Interior invited him to hand over the seal and the keys of the Community authority, citing the unsettled situation that prevailed in the K.S. of Kouklia for a long time and the continuous involvement of mechanisms such as the Audit Office, the Police and the Ministry of Interior itself.

Members of the community authority in a letter had attributed to the then dismissed commune unacceptable behaviour and machinations within the Community Council, accusations which he himself rejected from the first moment and appealed to the courts.
