CONCERN OVER RISING NUMBER OF CASES AND HOSPITALISATIONS

 Filenews 22 March 2022

Concern about the increase recorded in recent days in the number of coronavirus cases and especially about the increase in the number of hospitalized, expresses the CySEC.

Speaking on state radio, The Spokesman of the CySEC, Charalambos Harilaou, said that in the last three days there have been 35 more admissions than discharges, resulting in the number of hospitalized with coronavirus in state hospitals to rise today to 149.

He expressed hope that daily cases will not remain at 5,000. He pointed out that the vast majority of cases are people under the age of 50 and not a large number of them are expected to require hospitalization.

Mr. Harilaou stressed that hospitalization needs 0.5% of cases. As he explained, every 4,000 cases, 20 patient admissions are expected in hospitals.

At the same time, he noted that the median age of hospitalized patients in the common wards is 70 years and in the Intensive Care Units 66 years.
