YELLOW WEATHER WARNING - SEVERE WEATHER IN MANY AREAS

Intense hail prevails in several areas of Paphos, resulting in several areas being left without electricity. At the same time, a yellow warning was issued by the Meteorological Service for heavy rains and thunderstorms.

In particular, isolated strong thunderstorms are expected to affect the region intermittently. The intensity of the rain is expected to range between 35 and 50 millimetres per hour and hail is likely to fall.

The warning is in effect from 14:00 until 17:00 in the afternoon today.

It should be noted that intense weather phenomena also prevail in areas in Nicosia, while there is also heavy snowfall in Troodos.

Early afternoon many Paphos areas were left without electricity for a while due to the storms.

In detail the weather

Weak low pressure affects the area. Intermittently, sparse dust will hover in the atmosphere, which is receding from tomorrow.

In the afternoon the weather will be mostly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. In the higher mountains, snow or sleet is expected to fall. The winds will blow southwest, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort and the sea will be a little turbulent until turbulent.

Tonight the weather will remain mostly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms, mainly on the coast, as well as snowfall in the higher mountains. The temperature will rise to around 14 degrees in the interior and on the coast and 6 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Saturday, the weather will be partly cloudy. On Sunday the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy and local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, mainly after noon. Snowfall is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos. On Monday it will be temporarily partly cloudy.

The temperature will gradually rise by Sunday and a slight drop on Monday to hover close to the average climatic values. The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issue of the bulletin, was 72 centimetres.
