THE CYPRUS PAPERS - ORIGINAL VIDEO COLLECTED FROM BRITIAN

Filenews 16 February 2022 - by Michalis Hadjivasilis

At the final stage is the study by the Legal Service of the police's findings and the file that was formed regarding the revelations of the Al Jazeera network, which led to the resignations of the former Speaker of the Parliament Dimitris Syllouris and the MP Christakis Giovannis.

Information from "F" indicates that there has recently been a significant development regarding the case. Following instructions from the Legal Service, investigators went to London and received from the offices of Al Jazeera the genuine video that included all the lyrics that the station's journalists had under cover with people in Cyprus. This move was made so that if the case proceeds before a Court, then the video will be filed as evidence. Investigators had gone to the British capital on January 18 and after taking testimony from a responsible person, they received the genuine video and handed it over to the Legal Service. The delivery of the video took place in Britain, since there is the seat of the journalists who came to Cyprus and not Qatar.

According to the same information, this video, in which all the conversations of those involved were recorded, is no different from the one that was aired, however, there are all the excerpts of the conversations that the station's journalists had with the people they met here in Cyprus. What is concluded is that the video was not tampered with by the network, but only excerpts were shown.

In the meantime, the Attorney General will soon announce his final decisions on what course the case will take. The Police, as "F" had previously revealed, recommend the prosecution of at least five persons on the basis of testimony they managed to collect and data obtained through analysis of data found on computers. It is most likely that the Legal Service will proceed with the case by registering it before a Court, it is still unknown for whom and for which offences.

From the months-long investigations that have been extended abroad, testimonies have emerged from persons shown in the video as well as from the examination of files and documents. A great effort was also made to convince the Al Jazeera journalists seen in the video to come and testify, however, they refused. The network had also posted a second video not in relation to those involved in the first video, but on football issues. This video was studied on the instructions of the Attorney General but it was not found that there were any offences to be examined.
