 Filenews 15 February 2022

Very important and necessary development project for Limassol both traffic and urban planning, characterizes the Limassol Municipality the configuration of the intersection of Agia Fylaxeos – Arch Avenue. Makarios, which is part of the Third Phase of the Regeneration of Agia Fylaxeos, with the Limassol Municipality assuring that the continuation of the operation of the playground located within the Laniteia Schools is ensured.

4 conditions were obtained in the updated study, the Limassol Municipality said in a statement.

The configuration of the intersection of Agia Fylaxeos – Arch Avenue. Makarios is part of the Third Phase of the Redevelopment of Agia Fylaxeos, a very important and necessary development project for our city, both traffic and urban planning.

Designers of this urban project are the Department of Public Works and the Department of Town Planning and Housing. The issue of this intersection has been under discussion for more than 20 years and various proposals have been evaluated from time to time. The last updated study of Public Works was made in 2021, and for transparency purposes it is posted on the website of the Limassol Municipality.

In order to avoid disinformation of the citizens of our city, and for reasons of full transparency, the Limassol Municipality notes that it has received assurances from the Researchers that the project, as proposed in their updated study, meets the following conditions:

  • Compliance with the Limassol Local Plan
  • Design based on the principles of Sustainable Urban Mobility and the recent relevant study of the SUMP for Limassol
  • Improving road safety conditions
  • Upgrading and enrichment of the greenery of the intersection area

The Limassol Municipality stresses, once again, that under no circumstances would it consent to the execution of a project at the above intersection, unless there was complete technocratic documentation of compliance with the above conditions and, in addition, if the continuation of the operation of the adjacent playground within Laniteio was not ensured.

The implementation of this project, after many years of delay, will serve the development of the city and the prosperity of our citizens. It would not be in Limassol's interest if, through the continuation of a never-ending and ineffective dialogue, we were to lose funds available from the state for the development of our city.
