Recently, the Police have received several complaints from citizens about suspicious phone calls, in which shrewd people pretend to be officials of international insurance services and / or the Police, reporting to unsuspecting citizens that their Social Insurance Number is being abused.
According to the Police, citizens receive phone calls from virtual numbers that appear as authentic numbers of Cypriot mobile phones and initially with a recorded message they falsely inform in English that their social security number has been abused.
They are then referred to a call centre where they ask unsuspecting citizens to disclose their personal and banking data, in order to deceive them.
The public is urged to be particularly careful and not to disclose to any person their personal and banking information and where possible, to try to confirm the authenticity of the service calling them.
