Serious are the problems, which arise from the continuous increase of abandoned dogs or cats, with the Party for The Animals of Cyprus stating, in a statement, that it considers it imperative that the state and the citizens recognize this reality and contribute in any way by promoting the idea: "We do not buy dogs or cats until all the shelters are empty".
As the Party for Animals points out, it is inconceivable on the one hand to have legislation that is not activated (on dogs 184(I) 2002 article 29), and on the other hand to leave everything at the discretion to decide as it sees fit either to buy, import or sell any animal, with the result that the abuse of animals continues, shelters trying to alleviate (or eliminate the problem with adoptions inside and/or outside Cyprus), and at the same time abandoned animals to be in the fields, in the streets, and in the wildernesses. "The vicious circle to continue and always at the expense of all of us, animals, volunteers, rescuers, and other conscientious citizens or organized groups."
With the Party for the Animals of Cyprus, directly asking the state and its services, as in addition to examining those parameters that do not allow the relevant legislation to be applied, to regulate even now by law with a moratorium of three, or four years, the complete prohibition of the sale or purchase of animals, such as dogs or cats, until the shelters are emptied, until some unscrupulous citizens stop abandoning their animals.
