Late this afternoon, the Police arrested a 28-year-old expatriate, a resident of Paphos, who was found to be the owner of the vehicle in which the runaway Alexandros Sarkisidis and another person were seen in the morning and who fled after a chase through the streets of Kato Pafos.
The 28-year-old after his arrest claimed that he had nothing to do with the case and that the car had it parked in a public place with a sales plate and does not know how the vehicle ended up in the possession of the runaway.
The person in charge of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nikolaou, stated to "F", police officers who were on patrol on Agapenoros Avenue in Kato Paphos, spotted early in the morning in a car and in the driver's seat a person who looked like one of the two escapees of the Pafos Police detention centre and specifically Alexandros Sarkisidis. In the passenger seat, said the head of the Pafos ICF, there was a second person, who could not be identified and it is being investigated whether he is the second runaway or another accomplice of the expatriate runaway.
An alarm was immediately sounded and the police patrol began chasing the suspicious vehicle. The runaway, driving in a dangerous way, hit other parked vehicles and followed a path to the Mall of Paphos. There the two occupants abandoned the car and fled running and disappeared in the area.
The Police had created a cordon in the wider area of Kato Pafos and until the evening continued intensive investigations to locate and arrest the runaway, as well as to arrest and identify the second occupant of the vehicle. Information that the Police continue to collect in the meantime, indicate that Sarkisidis has been recognized by another citizen as the person who lived the last few days in an apartment in the area of Kato Pafos near the Tombs of the Kings.
Police helicopters, as well as detection dogs, also participated in the investigations to locate the runaway, Mr. Nikolaou stressed.
