In a systematic and tangible way, the preparation of technological innovations that offer modern services to the residents and visitors of Pafos is promoted, despite the relative and expected delay caused by the pandemic in this field as well. Following the standards of large cities of technologically advanced countries, Pafos will be able in a short time to offer residents and visitors new prospects for the use of modern methods, such as an electronic announcement system, signage points and time information on buses, a network of electric bicycle stations, a network of electric vehicle charging points, an upgrade of public lighting and the creation of a high-speed WiFi network in all central and tourist areas of the Municipality. There will be an innovative system at a pancyprian level of total "smart parking" in every area of the Municipality of Pafos, has entered the implementation trajectory, with its installation and expected operation.
The whole effort becomes pioneering since the use of available information and communication technologies, what is expressed as a "smart city" infrastructure, has been adopted as a link, in order to improve the quality, performance and interactivity of urban services and at the same time to reduce the cost and consumption of resources.
"The construction of a smart city contributes to the achievement of a total improvement in the quality of life and the effectiveness of services and the coverage of the needs of the citizens, while it upgrades the level of their contacts with the local government", stress municipal actors who "run" this program. "For example, the citizen and the guest in the Municipality of Pafos will be able to move more easily with the available urban transport, since they will be able to be informed online through mobile applications, available free of charge in a portal of the Municipality, for the entire service, including the waiting time until the arrival of the next bus that will take him to his desired destination."
All the services of the Municipality will be accessible through this Portal, including a comprehensive list of attractions with description and explanation for each one, as well as services offered by individuals and local businesses that will contract with the Municipality, the Municipality's officials point out.
