Filenews 6 February 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

The establishment of a new archaeological body, the Polish Research Centre, is being carried out by two archaeological expeditions of Polish universities, which for many years have been conducting excavations in the Ancient Agora of Pafos. These are the University of Warsaw and the Jagelion University of Krakow, whose archaeological expeditions in Paphos were now decided to unify and work under the umbrella of the Polish Research Centre.

This development was already announced before the holidays to the Mayor of Pafos by the head of the excavations, Professor Evdoxia Papoutsis-Wladyka, asking Phaedon Phaedonos for the support and assistance of the Municipality to find a suitable place to house the Polish Research Center, which is expected to operate immediately in Paphos. The Mayor of Pafos responded positively to the request, expressing the city's gratitude for the results of the long work of the two missions in Paphos.

Mrs Papoutsi-Wladyka also thanked the Mayor of Pafos for the multifaceted support provided by the Municipality to the Archaeological Mission and assured him that both she personally and her team will continue with zeal and enthusiasm their excavation work in the city.

In the meantime, the first volume with the results of the excavations carried out by the Yagelion University of Krakow in the Ancient Agora of Pafos was prepared by the Polish university mission working on the site and has already been handed over to the Mayor of Phaedon Phaedonos by its head, Professor Evdoxia Papoutsis-Wladyka. The volume includes the findings of the period 2011, the year that the excavations began in this area, until 2015. The findings from 2016 to 2020 are scheduled to be published later.

Upon receiving the volume, the Mayor of Pafos expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Professor Papoutsis-Wladyka for the work carried out by the Polish Archaeological Mission in the Ancient Agora of Pafos, bringing to light the rich historical past of the city through its long and laborious excavation work.
