The Municipality of Geroskipou has secured the approval for its participation as a full member and certified city in the World Health Organization in the European network "Healthy Cities", according to information provided by "F". For this purpose, a presentation was held at the Municipal Hall of Geroskipou in the presence of the coordinator of healthy cities of the Hellenic Network and representative to the World Health Organization, Dezis Papathanasopoulou, who analyzed the benefits that will result from the participation of the Municipality in the Network of healthy cities.
The Network of Healthy Cities of Europe has existed since 1988. It has 100 certified Municipalities every five years that apply the principles, values and payroll of healthy cities while there is a second network in which 32 national nets from states of the European region participate.
Cyprus has acquired the national network and we are already in the 7th phase where with the new five-year period the recertification and redefinition of policies and conditions will take place.
The presentation was about what it means to join the European network of healthy cities, what will be the prerequisite criteria and what are the benefits for its citizens and the development of the city. The benefits, according to the officials, the citizens will see them directly because it has to do with the change of policy and the projects that will be done within the city.
"Great benefit will come from the international promotion of the Municipality of Geroskipou, which is now part of a very large family of 1500 cities in Europe and this is particularly important, not only at a diplomatic level but also at the level of exchange of knowledge, information and know-how", the officials said.
Mrs Papathanasopoulou, for her part, mentioned that Geroskipou will have access to a large database and will be able to cooperate with various cities from all over Europe, participate in the submission of programmes and funding to the EU and be able to easily find partners to submit these projects.
