DRIVER FROM THE NORTH FOUND WITH LARGE QUANTITY OF DRUGS

A large quantity of drugs was identified and seized during a vehicle inspection at the Agios Dometios barricade. For the purpose of facilitating interrogation, a 41-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.

Specifically, around 4.30p.m. yesterday, at the barricade of Agios Dometios, members of the Customs Department stopped for inspection a car, which was entering the free areas. It was found that the driver of the vehicle was a 41-year-old resident of the occupied territories.

During the ensuing investigation, the following were identified and seized:

 amount of methamphetamine, weighing 8 kg and 641 grams

 amount of cocaine, weighing one kilogram and 546 grams

 amount of heroin, weighing 293 grams

• quantity of synthetic plant matter, weighing 468 grams

 unknown liquid substance, weighing 378 grams

 amount of unknown plant matter, weighing 69 grams.

A judicial arrest warrant was obtained against the 41-year-old under which he was arrested and taken into custody to facilitate interrogation. Today he is expected to appear before the District Court of Nicosia, for the issuance of a detention order.

The case is being investigated by YKAN (Nicosia District Unit).
