3,038 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Tuesday 1 February

One death was announced from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 734, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health.

211 patients COVID-19 are hospitalized, of which 60 are in serious condition, a number that shows a decrease in severe cases, compared to the previous days. 76.78% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

20 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

3,038 (positivity rate: 2.67%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified from 113,862 tests - molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 259,784.

It is worth noting that another 21 cases were identified in nursing homes and 341 cases in schools, of which 85 from test to stay.

Today's results follow in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 1 death announced with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

- Woman, aged 77, who died on 1st February at Paphos General Hospital.

As a result, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 734, of which:

- 458 men (62,4%), and

- 276 women (37.6%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 211 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 60 are in serious condition or in conditions of PPE.

Of the 60 patients who are in serious condition, 29 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit off the ventilator and 27 are in an Increased Care Unit.

 C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 113,862 diagnoses performed, 6,146 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 107,716 by the antigen rapid test method, 3038 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 107 cases from 557 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 64 cases from 2,694 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 326 cases from 2,380 samples were taken through private initiative.
  • 40 cases from 344 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1,512 cases from 45,908 samples examined by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 984 cases from 61,808 samples examined by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health's program.
  • 5 cases from 170 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
