Seven people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 756, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health.
At the same time, 2,885 new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 277,864.
As reported, the people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- a man, aged 93, who died on February 7
-a man, aged 71, who died on February 7

In total, 206 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, 48 in serious condition (3 in ICU/19 intubated, 26 in PPE). Hospitalized without a history of vaccination are at a rate of 69.91%.
Meanwhile, 26 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious continue to be hospitalized intubated due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
Diagnostic tests
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 111,932 diagnostic tests were performed. The positivity rate in total exams is 2.58%.
6,245 molecular tests were performed. There were 485 positive cases with a positivity rate of 7.77%.
105,687 rapid antigen detection tests were performed, which resulted in 2,400 positive cases with a positivity rate of 2.27%.
Through tracing, 462 molecular tests were performed and 60 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 12.99%). 1,336 rapid antigen tests were performed and 93 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 6.96%).
From a private initiative, 2,192 molecular tests were performed, 326 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 14.87%) and 43,504 rapid antigen tests were performed, 1,440 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 3.31%).
Through the programmes of the Ministry of Health, 62,183 rapid antigen tests were carried out. 960 positive cases were identified.
At the sampling points, 17,446 rapid detection tests were performed and 528 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 3.03%).
Education
In Primary Education, 20,307 rapid antigen tests were performed, 133 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 0.65%)
In Secondary Education, 12,514 rapid screening tests were performed, 96 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 0.77%)
With the "Test-to-Stay" 6,720 rapid antigen tests were performed and 82 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 1.22%)

In Government Agencies, 939 rapid antigen tests were performed and 3 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 0.32%)
As stated by the Ministry of Health, the numbers mentioned in the announcement are indicative and may vary based on the final and updated data sent in the context of the National Epidemiological Risk Report published every other Friday.
The change in the way daily results are announced, it is noted, has a double goal.
"On the one hand, the way in which the results were announced daily is simplified, so that they are more easily understood by media officers and citizens. Moreover, the announcement has not removed data, apart from the analysis of hospitalized patients per hospital (and will now be given in total for all hospitals) which is not considered necessary since it does not give substantial data in relation to the course and monitoring of the pandemic", Added.
On the other hand, it is mentioned, the tests carried out by population category are grouped together, in order to draw more correct conclusions at a scientific level as well.
For example, it is noted, the gravity of the results and the positivity rate through the tracing process is different from the gravity of the results performed daily and concern people who need a negative result for SafePass purposes.
In the same way, the announcement continues, the positivity rate from the checks carried out in schools is of different gravity from the rest of the corresponding percentage since through this, the situation in school units can be monitored more correctly.
"Based on this philosophy, it was deemed necessary to change the way the results were announced every day. It is emphasized that subsequently and depending on the data that emerges per phase of the pandemic, further changes and adjustments may be made", the announcement concludes.
