2,167 NEW CASES, THREE DEATHS - Wednesday 23 February

Three people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 to 833, while 2,167 new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 313,406, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.

In a statement, the competent Ministry says the positivity rate stands at 2.24%.

All three deaths were recorded yesterday, February 22, 2022, and all involve men, aged 74, 77 and 81.

In total, 161 COVID-19 patients are being treated in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 36 are in serious condition.

Specifically, 13 people are intubated in the Intensive Care Unit, while 23 are hospitalized in an Increased Care Unit.

The percentage of hospitalized patients without a history of vaccination is 64.38%.

23 patients who have ceased to be infectious continue to be hospitalized intubated due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

As reported by the competent Ministry, a total of 96,880 diagnostic tests were performed and 2,167 new cases were identified, with the positivity rate in all tests amounting to 2.24%.

Also, 6,183 molecular tests were performed, which resulted in 319 positive cases, with a positivity rate of 5.16%, while 90,697 rapid antigen detection tests were performed, which resulted in 1,848 positive cases, with a positivity rate of 2.04%.

Moreover, through tracing, 515 molecular tests were performed and 53 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 10.29%), while 1,041 rapid antigen tests were performed and 82 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 7.88%).

From a private initiative, 1,627 molecular tests were performed and 171 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 10.51%), while 45,234 rapid antigen tests were performed and 1,016 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 2.25%)

Meanwhile, through the programs of the Ministry of Health, 45,463 rapid antigen tests were carried out and 832 positive cases were identified.

At the sampling points, 25,047 rapid detection tests were performed and 605 positive cases were identified, with the positivity rate standing at 2.42%.

As noted by the Ministry of Health in Secondary Education, 12,063 rapid detection tests were performed and 78 positive cases were identified, with a positivity rate of 0.65%, while in the context of the implementation of the test to stay measure, 4,534 rapid antigen tests were performed and 55 positive cases were identified, with the positivity rate at 1.21%.

In special schools, 92 rapid antigen tests were carried out and no positive cases were detected (positivity rate 0%).

In addition, 1,168 rapid antigen tests were performed in nursing homes and 11 positive cases were identified (positivity rate of 0.94%), in closed facilities 1,576 rapid antigen detection tests were performed and 1 new case was identified (positivity rate of 0.06%) and 122 rapid antigen tests were performed in government agencies and no positive cases were detected (positivity rate of 0%)

According to the competent Ministry, the numbers mentioned in the announcement are indicative and may vary based on the final and updated data sent in the context of the National Epidemiological Risk Report published every other Friday.
