The barometric low "Elpida" will affect the region until late tonight, while the cold air mass, which accompanies the low, will remain in the region until Saturday. Low pressure and warmer air mass are expected on Sunday. Here's a detailed forecast until Sunday:
On Wednesday afternoon the weather will be mostly cloudy, with local rain or even an isolated thunderstorm. Locally in the mountains snowfall is expected. The winds will blow mainly west to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort but on the windward coast and mountainously strong, 5 Beaufort. The sea will be up to turbulent, in the south and east but up to undulating on the rest of the coast.
Tonight the weather will be partly cloudy and temporarily cloudy, with local rains expected intermittently or even an isolated thunderstorm. Locally, in the mountains or even in the semi-mountainous, temporary snowfall is expected. Towards dawn, the weather is expected to improve. Winds will initially blow southwest to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort but on the windward coast strong, 5 Beaufort to gradually become northwest to northeast, of the same intensity. The sea will be up to turbulent, in the south and east, but up to undulating on the rest of the coast. The temperature will drop to around zero degrees in the interior, around 5 degrees on the west coast, around 3 degrees on the rest of the coast and around minus 6 degrees in the higher mountains. In the mountains, in the semi-mountainous, but also in leeward areas of the interior, frost will form.
Tomorrow Thursday, periods of sunshine will alternate with cloudy, while isolated light rains or even light snowfall locally in the mountains and early in the morning locally and in the semi-mountainous areas are not excluded. Winds will blow mainly westerly to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort but windward strong, 5 Beaufort. The sea will be up to turbulent, in the south and east but up to undulating on the rest of the coast. The temperature will rise to around 11 degrees in the interior, around 13 degrees on the coast and around one degree in the higher mountains, where locally the frost will persist.
On Friday the weather will be partly cloudy and locally mostly cloudy, while isolated rains are expected as well as transient snowfall locally in the mountains.
On Saturday the weather will initially be mostly clear, but from noon onwards it will become partly cloudy and partly cloudy, with the possibility of isolated rains or even transient snowfall locally in the mountains.
On Sunday the weather will gradually become mostly cloudy, with local rains intermittently, isolated thunderstorms and snowfall locally in the higher mountains.
The temperature is not expected to change significantly on Friday, while on Saturday a slight rise is expected, to hover just below the average climatic values. On Sunday, a slight further rise in temperature is expected, to be close to the average climatic values.
The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issue of the bulletin, was 75 cm.
