PAPHOS - ONE IN THREE MOTORISTS REPORTED FOR SPEED OR LACK OF SEATBELT

A large number of traffic violations were detected and reported within just 12 hours by the members of the Traffic Police Headquarters, who participated in the daily operation of traffic control, which was carried out today on the road network of the city and district of Paphos, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Of the total 353 offences reported, several relate to those offences, which are proven to be the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions. Specifically, 100 drivers were reported for exceeding the speed limit, 70 for not using a seat belt, 33 for using a mobile phone while driving and one for driving under the influence of drugs. At the same time, two persons were identified and reported, who were driving motor vehicles without holding a driver's licence.

In three cases, during the operation, members of the Police provided assistance to drivers who faced problems due to a mechanical failure of their vehicle.

The current inspections of the members of the Traffic Headquarters, who participated in the operation, covered the motorway, the urban and the secondary road network of the city and the district of Paphos.

Traffic controls by both the Traffic Police Headquarters and the provincial Traffic Police Departments continue daily throughout the road network of Cyprus. The aim is always to prevent fatal and serious road collisions.
