MINISTRY OF FINANCE AGREES TO EXCLUDE THE PAYMENT OF VAT FROM NEW HAEMODIALYSIS MACHINE

Filenews 17 January 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

Immediate and positive was the response of the Minister of Finance to the request of the legal advisor of the Paphos Kidney Association (Paphos Kidney Association), Savvas Savvidis, to exclude from the payment of VAT the expensive haemodialysis machine which with donations of its members managed to buy the Association.

As "F" had revealed in December, the Association with donations of members and friends managed to collect the amount of €32,000 that  is the cost of the machine in question in order to give it to the Dialysis Department of Paphos Hospital. However, as stated in a letter to the Minister of Finance, Konstantinos Petrides, the legal advisor of the Association, Savvas Savvidis, required his intervention in order to exclude the amount of VAT amounting to €6,000 for the machine in question, since this amount had not been collected. Mr. Savvidis clarified that this discount of the amount can be considered as a 'contribution of the state'.

Konstantinos Petrides responded immediately to Mr. Savvidis' call and in yesterday's telephone conversation, it was confirmed that this exemption will be made for the sake of the state and therefore Mr. Savvidis was asked to present all the relevant documents of the offer for the said machine, which also reveals the value of the VAT.

Mr. Savvidis responded immediately to the instructions of the Minister of Finance, thus achieving the possibility of buying the machine for Paphos to improve the lives of Paphos kidney patients.

The Association and the representatives of kidney patients of Pafos congratulated both the Minister of Finance and Savvas Savvidis, because with their exemplary cooperation, they have managed to give hope and smiles to those who need it most.
