3,777 NEW CASES - Thursday

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 6, 2022, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death, COVID-19, were recorded, while 3,777 are the new cases of the disease. At the same time, an increase in hospitalizations is recorded, specifically from 205 yesterday Wednesday we reached today 235, of which 73 in serious condition (on Wednesday it was 70).

Specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 650.
  • 235 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 73 are in serious condition. 77.45% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 15 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
  • A total of 77,255 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 3,777 (positivity rate: 4.89%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 192,157.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 650, of which:

  • 411 men (63.2%), and
  • 239 women (36.8%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 235 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 73 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 73 patients who are in serious condition, 29 are intubated, 2 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 42 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 77,255 diagnoses made, 12,452 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 64,803 by the antigen rapid test, 3,777 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 250 cases from 2,445 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 75 cases from 3,930 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 593 cases from 5,667 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 205 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1,328 cases from 26,539 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 1,510 cases from 38,264 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 7 cases from 205 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
