One person has died from Covid, while 3,538 new cases have been identified from 91,482 tests conducted today Sunday, January 2. See in detail:
- 1 person died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 639.
- 203 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 84 are in serious condition. 83.26% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
- A total of 91,482 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 3,538 (positivity rate: 3.87% new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 172,697.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 1 person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:
- Woman, aged 85, who died on January 2nd at Larnaka General Hospital.
As a result, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 639, of which:
- 405 men (63.4%), and
- 234 women (36.6%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 203 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 84 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 84 patients who are in serious condition, 33 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 46 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 91,482 diagnoses performed, 7,912 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 83,570 by the antigen rapid test, 3538 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 68 cases from 456 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 58 cases from 3,915 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 362 cases from 3,198 samples taken through private initiative.
- 22 cases from 291 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1816 cases from 45,456 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 1209 cases from 38,114 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
- 3 cases from 52 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
