Filenews 1 December 2021
Slight snowfall occurred at dawn on the highest peaks of Troodos, while strong winds affect several areas nationwide.
The Director of the Meteorological Service, Kleanthis Nikolaidis, speaking to philenews, said that today the same phenomena will prevail as yesterday, noting that in Troodos Square the temperature is currently around 3 degrees Celsius while rainfall prevails in the area of Saitas. "No heavy snowfall is expected in Troodos", noted Mr. Nikolaidis.
He also pointed out that the most important feature of the weather today is the temperatures, which will be at normal or slightly below normal for the season levels, with a strong western air current.
At the same time, he stressed that a new system is expected on Friday, in which the weather will be mostly cloudy.
Warm this winter
Mr. Nikolaidis said that from what is shown by the seasonal forecasts this winter, i.e. the months of December, January, February, will be relatively warm months. He explained that the average temperatures will fluctuate at normal and slightly above, while the cumulative rainfall does not seem to reach normal levels and will range from 60%-70% of normal. As he mentioned when we say normal rainfall we mean the climatic height, that is, the average of the previous thirty years.
The Director of the Department of Meteorology of Cyprus noted that this is not good at all for Cyprus, because the combination of the relatively high temperature, relatively high average temperature for Cyprus in the next three months along with the relatively low cumulative rain in a dry place such as Cyprus, is understood that it will be an additional problem.
In detail the weather
