FIREFIGHTING HELICOPTERS DEPART UNTIL NEXT SUMMER

Filenews 1 December 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

The two Kamov 27 type firefighting helicopters, leased from Russia by the Republic for firefighting purposes, have now completed their work for this year, according to a contract, and have already departed for their base this morning.

The two helicopters, which have been the "spearhead" of Cyprus' fire protection for years, departed from Paphos Airport, where they are stationed during the summer season and with Rhodes as a stopover, return to Moscow.

Competent stakeholders pointed out on this occasion that although the climate has now changed towards the winter, it is important that everyone shows responsibility in matters of environmental protection, since it is not uncommon for fires to occur during this period as well. With the intervention from the air of the two Kamovs no longer being possible, they observed, things will be even more difficult in the event of major fire incidents.
