Two more people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 619, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health.
177 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 59 are in serious condition. 79.67% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
10 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
A total of 75,844 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test, of which 508 (positivity rate: 0.67% new cases of the disease were identified.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 2 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- Woman, aged 82 years, who died on December 17 at Larnaka General Hospital.
- A man, aged 75, who died on December 18th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 619, of which:
- 394 men (63.7%), and
- 225 women (36.3%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.8 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 177 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 59 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 59 patients who are in serious condition, 21 are intubated and 38 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 75,844 diagnoses performed, 9,501 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 66,343 by the antigen rapid test method, 508 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 31 cases from 5,365 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 135 cases from 3,880 samples taken through private initiative.
- 21 cases from 240 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 212 cases from 46,576 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 109 cases from 19,767 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 0 cases from 16 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
