393 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Sunday

Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 610, the Ministry of Health announced. According to today's announcement, 393 (positivity rate: 0.61% new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 140,851.

At the same time, 146 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 55 are in serious condition. 77.4% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination. Also, 5 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.A total of 64,507 tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 2 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

- A man, aged 84, who ended up on December 12th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General
Hospital.

- Woman, aged 66, who ended up on December 12th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 610, of which:

  • 390 men (63.9%), and
  • 220 women (36.1%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.8 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 146 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 55 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 55 patients who are in serious condition, 18 are intubated, 3 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 34 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 64,507 diagnoses made, 11,410 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 53,097 by the antigen rapid test method, 393 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 6 cases from 59 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 35 cases from 5,471 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 38 cases from 5,630 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 2 cases from 122 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 114 cases from 26,653 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 197 cases from 26,444 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 1 case from 127 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
