The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 5, 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded, while 307 are the new cases of the disease.
Specifically:
- No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 601.
- 119 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 43 are in serious condition. 68.91% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 3 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
- A total of 57,003 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 307 (positivity rate: 0.54% new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 136,832.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 601, of which:
- 386 men (64.2%), and
- 215 women (35.8%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.7 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 119 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 43 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 43 patients who are in serious condition, 15 are intubated, 3 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 25 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 57,003 diagnoses performed, 7,383 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 49,620 by the antigen rapid test, 307 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 20 cases from 5,318 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 58 cases from 1,951 samples taken through private initiative.
- 5 cases from 114 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 91 cases from 25,146 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 133 cases from 24,474 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
