28 CASES OF OMICRON IN CYPRUS

In the context of the strict testing carried out in the Republic of Cyprus in the light of the new Omikron mutation, the Ministry of Health informs that after the sequence of samples of positive cases made by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the NIPD laboratory, as well as after a thorough analysis of the data by the Laboratory of Molecular Serology of the University of Cyprus, 28 new cases were identified with the Omikron variant. 

The positive cases of the Omikron variant were identified as follows:

A. 8 positive cases were identified as Omikron by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics:

They concern primary and secondary contacts of the first 5 cases of Omikron identified last week and are related to travel history. The 5 incidents concern students who had gone on this particular excursion and the remaining 3 incidents concern people of their family environment. All of the above positive signs had been classified as "possible Omikron" since last Friday, December 10, and had been given recommendations for state quarantine.

B. 20 positive samples were identified as Omikron by the NIPD Laboratory and the Laboratory of Molecular Serology of the University of Cyprus:

The 12 cases involve primary and secondary contacts of the first 5 cases of Omikron identified last week and are related to travel history. The 5 incidents concern students, one incident concerns a teacher who had gone on this particular excursion and the remaining 6 incidents concern people of their family environment.

All of the above cases had been classified as "possible Omikron" since last Friday, December 10, and had been given recommendations for state quarantine.

The remaining 8 positive samples relate to incidents with a recent travel history.
