The Regulation of the European Digital Certificate against Covid-19 and the recommendation on free movement within the European Union do not speak of a maximum duration of completed vaccination, but only of tests and recovery from the coronavirus, Commission spokesman Christian Vegan said today from Brussels, asked if the possibility of renewing the certificate with the third dose is under discussion in the EU.
"There are discussions about a possible update of the Recommendation on Freedom of Movement and in the context of these discussions various questions are being raised, such as the period of validity of the certificate or what will happen to the third tranche."
"But it is still too early to reach a conclusion. Our goal is always to have a coordinated approach to free movement in the EU and clear rules for citizens," he said.
Competence of each Member State
In any case, the representative of the Commission of the Commission, Eric Mamer, recalls that the Regulation on the European Digital Certificate concerns only the travel and movement of citizens within the European Union and theoretically applies until 1 July 2022, that is, 12 months from its official entry into force in the EU, with the possibility of an extension, if necessary.
As regards the use of the certificate in activities within each country and its period of validity, it is the responsibility of each Member State to decide.
