SUPERMARKETS DISAGREE WITH COVSCAN

 Filenews 13 November 2021 - byAngelos Nikolaou

Ten days before the SafePass holding control measure is mandatory (22 November), through the CovScan Cyprus app, businesses are protesting in a letter to the Minister of Health.

The executive secretary of the Pancyprian Association of Supermarkets, Andreas X'Adamou, in a letter asks for clear instructions to be given as soon as possible, regarding the way and the procedure of implementation, in order to allow businesses to prepare properly so as to avoid any confusion and inconvenience to consumers.

Furthermore, he notes, there should be immediate information on the groups of the population that may be excluded.

Pa.S.YPE, which continues to disagree with the implementation of the measure, agrees with the position of the CCCI and OEB, as it has been expressed, that businesses should not be responsible for the implementation and supervision of the measure. "It is not the job and obligation of businesses to police citizens. We hope that this time this request will be treated with due care and taking seriously into account how a business should operate and work in the real economy and in the market, especially in the food retail trade," he says. The Association strongly disagrees with any adoption of further measures to support SafePass, such as technological equipment and infrastructure.
