 Filenews 23 November 2021

Impressive are the photos of the multinational aeronautical exercise under the name "MEDUSA-11/2021" that took place in the sea area of Crete yesterday, Distinguished Visitors' Day (DV-DAY).

The Republic of Cyprus was represented by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petrides, the Chief of the Hellenic Republic of Cyprus, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, and the Commander of the Navy, Captain Dimitrios Masouras, NN.

In the exercise, floating and flying means from Greece, Egypt, the Republic of Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates participated while France, India, Jordan, Morocco, Portugal and Saudi Arabia were invited to participate with observers. From the National Guard participated the PATH IOANNIDIS and the Submarine Disaster Team (U.S.) of MYC.

More critically, during the final phase, operational scenarios were conducted which included static belt jumps and free fall of paratroopers from A/P, convoy and climbing on a warship, combined landing action in Maleme, Crete, as well as virtual air attacks by fighter aircraft. The Final Phase was completed with the passage and awarding of a greeting of the aeronautical units to the honoured persons aboard the Helicopter Carrier – Amphibious Landing Craft GAMAL ABDEL NASSER, of the Egyptian Navy.

The participation of the CP in this exercise, for the fifth consecutive year, is the culmination of the stable and upgraded trilateral cooperation between the Armed Forces of the participating countries. Moreover, the participation of PATH IOANNIDIS and the Myk Group is considered to be particularly constructive, as it provided the opportunity to conduct operational co-training in various areas of aeronautical exercises, within the framework of the cooperation of the Republic of Cyprus on defence and security issues, with the forces of other States in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
