The Police made 1,060 out-of-court complaints about various traffic offences at a pancyprian level, in the context of the prevention of serious and fatal road collisions.
Specifically, according to a police announcement, a total of 1,060 out-of-court complaints about various traffic offences resulted from traffic control, by members of the Special Ulamos of Motorcyclists (E.O.M.O),of the Road Accident Prevention Ulamas (O.P.O.D) of the Headquarters and Avdimos and members of the Traffic Police, on the motorways and the secondary road network all over Cyprus.
The Pancyprian traffic police checks were carried out between the hours of 6 a.m. on Friday 05/11/21 and 6 a.m. today Sunday 07/11/2021,in the context of road collision prevention, prevention and suppression of nuisance offences by cars and motorcycles, as well as juvenile delinquency.
The majority of the complaints concerned offences, which are proven to be the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions. Of these, 483 complaints stand out, which were made about exceeding the speed limit, 53 complaints about not using a seat belt and 28 complaints about non-free-handed driving (use of a mobile phone).
There were also 31 complaints concerning driving under the influence of alcohol, nine for parking in disabled parking lots and 166 for traffic signal violation.
It is noted that six complaints were made about non-use of a protective helmet, 47 complaints about driving with an expired certificate of fitness, 115 complaints about driving without a registration certificate and five complaints about driving an unregistered vehicle.
In addition, another 117 out-of-court complaints about various other traffic offences emerged.
According to the police, targeted traffic checks continue daily, around the clock, throughout the road network nationwide, with the aim of consolidating the correct road awareness among all road users and preventing fatal and serious road collisions.
