THREE-DAY CHARITY TORCH RELAY BY THE CYPRUS POLICE TORCH RUN

In order to support the athletes of the special Olympics, the Charity Association "Cyprus Police Torch Run", carries out between the dates of 6 and 8 October 2021, charity torch relay. Under the slogan "Give the smile of hope to our athletes with special abilities", police torchbearers will pass through all the provinces of Cyprus, collecting money for the needs of athletes.

In the morning today, during a press conference that was granted, at the Traffic Education Park, regarding the torch relay, the Police and the Federation of Special Olympics of Cyprus, signed a memorandum of cooperation. The memorandum was signed by the Police by the Chief of Police Mr. Stelios Papatheodorou and by the Federation of Special Olympics of Cyprus, by the General Secretary of the Federation Mrs. Eleni Rossidou.

Speaking at the conference, the Chief of Police, Mr. Stelios Papatheodorou, pointed out that the signing of the memorandum officially seals the cooperation between the Police and the Federation of Special Olympics, on issues of support, support and provision of equal sports opportunities.

The Chief exalted the work carried out by the Federation, through which, as he said, the acceptance and respect for diversity, as well as the greatness of the human will, are highlighted. At the same time, however, Mr. Papatheodorou did not fail to mention the charitable association of the Police "Cyprus Police Torch Run", noting that the members of the Police, who compose it, participate voluntarily and actively in all its activities of the Special Olympics of Cyprus, work pro bono as coaches of athletes with special abilities and organize charity events, such as the torch relay that will take place during the three-day period from 6 to 8 October.

This year's torch relay, which is part of the annual program of charitable activities of the "Cyprus Police Torch Run", has been placed under the auspices of the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mrs. Stefis Drakos, and the high protection of the Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos II.

The start of the torch relay will be given at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6, at the Police Academy in Nicosia, in the presence of the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police. Its programme includes various events and visits to various charitable institutions in all provinces.

The Charitable Association, "Cyprus Police Torch Run" was founded in November 1997, essentially marking the beginning of a humanitarian and social contribution of the members of the Police. The purpose and pursuit of the "Cyprus Police Torch Run" is to promote, develop and support the goals of the Special Olympics of Cyprus, to collect money to support athletes with intellectual disabilities and to organize torchbearers, through which money is collected for this purpose.

Wednesday 6 October, 2021

After the Police Academy, the torchbearers will arrive around 10:30 a.m. at the Special School of Nicosia and around 12 noon at the Day Care Centre for Adults with Disabilities, Morphou Apartment, in Peristerona.

Thursday 7 October, 2021

Around 8:30 a.m. will be at the IAIONIO Foundation in Larnaca and then, around 09:15 a.m. at the Accommodation and Employment Center in Agios Lazaros, while around 09:45 at the Special School of Agios Spyridonas in Larnaca. Then around 11:30 a.m. will attend the Special School Apostolos Varnavas and the Special Apostle Paul in Liopetri.

The torchbearer will arrive around 09:00 a.m. in Limassol and specifically at the Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Special Needs "Marios' House", while around 11.30 a.m. The torchbearers will arrive in Paphos at the Special School "Theoskepasti" – Margarita Liasidou Foundation, where an event will follow at 6pm.
