Within the framework of the Quartet Initiative of Cyprus, Greece, France and Italy, which aims at a joint presence in the Eastern Mediterranean, the aeronautical exercise "EUNOMIA 2-2021" is organized between 4 and 7 October in the sea area west and south of Cyprus.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Defence, the exercise will include a wide range of naval and air exercises as well as Search and Rescue objects.
It is added that the large-scale exercise was designed by the Ministries of Defence and the Military Staffs of the four countries and is expected to involve air and naval assets from the four countries.
"The Quartet Initiative is a tangible demonstration of the common understanding of the four European countries as part of the policy of de-escalation of tension aimed at enhancing security and stability in the wider region and ensuring freedom of navigation," it noted.
It demonstrates the collective intention and commitment to apply the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and Customary International Law and to maintain stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, the communication concludes.
