SAFEPASS - EXPECTED THAT ONLY FULLY VACCINATED WILL QUALIFY - Announcement expected this coming week

 Filenews 2 October 2021

One of the four provisions of safepass  is likely to change, since the data recorded in recent times, both by the Tracing Unit and by public hospitals, show that people who have been vaccinated with only one dose of the vaccine, are to a very small extent protected from the virus.

Following a government decision, it is anticipated that only the fully vaccinated will qualify for safepass in the future.

As reported by Filenews, it has been found that around 11,000 citizens, in order to secure SafePass, have received the first dose of the vaccine for several weeks, but never proceeded to their full vaccination.

According to information from Filenews, the Government has already taken the relevant decision, through a proposal which was approved by the Council of Ministers on 21 September. However, it has not yet been implemented, since it has been deemed appropriate to give time to scientists to follow up even more detail on the data.

Besides, for several days now, some of the members of the Advisory Scientific Committee and the head of the Tracing Unit have taken a position, arguing that some of what has been implemented last June, must be revised and adapted to the new data and to what is required by the phase of the pandemic that we are currently going through.

Official announcements from the Government are expected by the end of the week.
