84 NEW CASES, SATURDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, October 2, 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death, COVID-19, were recorded, while 84 are the new positive cases of the disease.

Specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, covid-19, so the total number of deaths remains 554.

  • 73 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 31 are in serious condition. 60.53% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 10 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

  • A total of 55,076 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 84 (positivity rate: 0.15%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 120,415.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 554, of which:

  • 351 men (63%), and
  • 203 women (37%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 73 patients of the COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 31 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 31 patients who are in serious condition, 15 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 14 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 55,076 diagnoses performed, 4,529 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 50,547 by the antigen rapid test, 84 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 2 cases from 2,441 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 8 cases from 1,927 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 5 cases from 161 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 49 cases from 38,244 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 20 cases from 12,303 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
