Filenews 27 October 2021
Decisions in the context of the effort to limit the spread of the COVID-19 disease were taken at today's meeting by the Council of Ministers. Among other things, the Council of Ministers, after examining the data of the Ministry of Health, according to which in the period July-October, 8.6% of the cases and 4.2% of the hospitalized patients who had completed their vaccination regimen had received the Janssen vaccine, approved the administration of a booster dose of vaccine to the people who received the vaccine of Johnson&Johnson, provided that they fall into one of the following population groups:
- People aged 60 years and over,
- People belonging to the vulnerable groups announced by the Ministry of Health,
- Health professionals, and
- Residents and workers in nursing homes.
It is clarified that for vaccination with a booster dose, a period of six (6) months must necessarily have elapsed since the initial vaccination. Individuals in the above groups will have the option for the booster dose among the vaccines of Johnson&Johnson, Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna. More details on the start of the procedure for administering the booster dose will be issued in the coming days.
A proposal presented by the Minister of Health, Mr. Michalis Hadjipantela, points out the need to ensure that in the coming period all necessary actions will continue to be taken in order to avoid a deterioration of the epidemiological picture of the country.
Taking into account the winter season that follows, the expected outbreak of seasonal infections, but also the broader situation prevailing across Europe with the reintroduction of strict restrictive measures in some states, the Council of Ministers decided today to extend the validity of the existing measures until November 9, 2021. The measures will be reviewed in conjunction with the epidemiological data as they will be formulated in the coming days.
