The improved situation of the past few days in Cyprus regarding the spread of the coronavirus is recorded this week on the epidemiological map of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) posted on the agency's website on Thursday.
Cyprus passes for the first time in weeks into the orange (moderate risk) zone from the red zone.
The epidemiological situation appears to have improved in several other parts of Europe, mainly in Western Europe (with the exception of Germany) and in the Scandinavian countries.
An orange zone is defined as countries or regions where the total number of new cases in the previous 14 days is between less than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the rate of positive tests exceeds 4%, or where the total number of new cases is between 50 and 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the rate of positive tests exceeds 1%, or where the total number of new cases is between 75 and of 200 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants and the rate of positive tests is less than 4%.
The red zone is defined as the countries or regions where the total number of new cases in the previous 14 days is between 75 and 200 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the percentage of positive tests exceeds 4%, and if the number of new cases is below 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (in which case the country passes to the "deep red" category).
In the "red zone", i.e. in the high-risk category, there are still several regions of Greece, Bulgaria, Germany, most of Austria, Ireland, Slovakia and Croatia, among others. In the deep red are the Baltic states, Slovenia and parts of Romania.
However, in the green category passed several regions of Spain, France, Italy, but also the North Aegean in Greece.
