Three ancient tombs came to light during the works of a construction company in the Anavarogos district of the Municipality of Pafos, but the company's officials failed to report anything to the Department of Antiquities or the Police, apparently in order to continue work on the construction site unhindered. The information was given, however, to an archaeological officer who, after confirming the fact, called the Police.

According to the Police, an officer of the Department of Antiquities in Paphos received on Tuesday information from a known person that during the conduct of works carried out by a specific contracting company in Anavarogos, ancient tombs were found without informing the competent authority.

The officer in question informed her Department and then went to the spot where she immediately found the existence of an ancient tomb and a man leaving it. She alerted the Police and members of the Pafos I.E. went to the place where the archaeological officer indicated to them the person in question.

The subsequent examinations revealed that the person in question works for the specific contracting company. In a search of himself, his vehicle and his residence, nothing was found. He was then called to the offices of the Pafos I.E. where he was interrogated and claimed that the reason he went down to the grave was for work purposes, since he was engaged in the installation of pipes. He was subsequently charged in writing and released to be summoned later.

Proceedings are in progress by the Department of Antiquities and the Police and against the contracting company, since it had the obligation to inform about what was found.

According to the examinations of the Department of Antiquities that followed, in the area of the construction site, the existence of three ancient tombs was found, which were photographed afterwards and were placed under guard.

The examinations are continued by the I.E. of Pafos.
