The Ministry of Health announces that today, October 5, 2021, a 75-year-old person has died of COVID-19, while 146 are the new cases of the disease.
Specifically:
- One person died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 556.
- 61 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 25 are in serious condition. 56.93% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 11 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
- A total of 53,610 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 146 (positivity rate: 0.27%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 120,761.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:
- A man, aged 75, who ended up on October 4th in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 556, of which:
- 353 men (63%), and
- 203 women (37%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 61 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 25 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 25 patients who are in serious condition, 13 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 11 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 53,610 diagnoses performed, 5,209 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 48,401 by the antigen rapid test method, 146 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 23 cases from 213 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 7 cases from 2,278 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 38 cases from 2,013 samples taken through private initiative.
- 5 cases from 498 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
- 5 cases from 204 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 48 cases from 28,349 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 20 cases from 20,052 samples tested with the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 3 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
