181 NEW CASES, TUESDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, October 19, 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of COVID-19 were recorded, while 181 are the new cases of the disease. At the same time, 61 patients are hospitalized, of which 22 are in serious condition.

Specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 564.

  • 61 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 22 are in serious condition. 61.3% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 7 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

  • A total of 52,794 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 181 (positivity rate: 0.34%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 122,709.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 564, of which:

  • 358 men (63%), and
  • 206 women (37%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.2 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 61 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 22 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 22 patients who are in serious condition, 11 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 10 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 52,794 diagnoses performed, 4,726 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 48,068 by the antigen rapid test method, 181 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 24 cases from 364 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 10 cases from 2,226 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 36 cases from 1,615 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 303 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 70 cases from 27,553 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 34 cases from 20,515 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 218 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
