100 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH - Wednesday

One death from coronavirus and 100 new cases of the disease was announced on Wednesday, October 6, by the Ministry of Health. As a case, the number of COVID-19 deaths stands at 557 and the number of infections at 120,861. At the same time, 59 covid-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 21 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

A total of 46,925 molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests were performed with the positivity rate reaching 0.21%. In the hospitals of the Organization of State Health Services, 59 patients are hospitalized, of which 21 are in serious condition. 58.74% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination. Intubated and in serious condition due to COVID – 19 are hospitalized 11 patients who have ceased to be infectious.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A man, aged 51, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 557, of which:

  • 354 men (64%), and
  • 203 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 59 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 21 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 21 patients who are in serious condition, 13 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and seven are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 46,925 diagnoses performed, 4,436 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 42,489 by the antigen rapid test, 100 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 14 cases from 201 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 5 cases from 2,358 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 23 cases from 1,494 samples through private initiatives.
  • 3 cases from 210 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 45 cases from 21,847 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 10 cases from 20,642 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 171 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 2 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
