Police arrested in the morning hours in Limassol Younes Amrani Boukhobza, 43, from Morocco, who had escaped last Sunday when he was transferred for medical assistance from Paphos detention centres to the city's hospital. For his arrest, a police operation was carried out in the area of Agios Tychonas in Limassol, based on information received in the last hours about his movements.

It was found that after his escape, the 43-year-old had "toured" half of Cyprus in an attempt to escape from the police investigations that were underway all over the island. It was specifically found that the car he stole outside Paphos hospital and with which he escaped, abandoned it a little later, stole a second with which he went to the area of Oroklini and from there went to the district of Limassol, where he was arrested at dawn today.

The foreigner had been transported to Paphos Hospital escorted by police officers from the detention centre after he complained that he was ill. There he managed to escape, pushing his police guards and stealing a car from an adjacent area, despite the fact that he was wearing handcuffs.

The suspect had initially been arrested in Famagusta for cases of burglaries and thefts and was re-arrested by the Pafos IRS when evidence emerged that he deliberately drove his vehicle on August 5th against two people in Paphos, due to personal differences with one of them.

The Chief of Police suspended the police officers responsible for guarding the detainee in the hospital area and called for a detailed investigation of the facts.
