OCCUPIED - LILLIE'S DECLARATION OF FEDERATION UNACCEPTABLE

 Filenews 16 September 2021

The accredited to the "Greek Cypriot administration of southern Cyprus", High Commissioner of Britain, is increasingly engaged in the Cyprus issue in recent days and his statements troubled us, the "Prime Minister", Ersan Saner, said in a written statement, commenting on the latest statements by Steven Lillie.

As broadcast from the occupied territories, Mr. Saner referred to Mr. Lillie's statement that the only way out for an agreement in Cyprus is federation, saying that "it is not realistic and cannot be accepted".

Britain, he continued, ignoring the expectations and demands of the "Turkish Cypriot people", cannot contribute to an outcome on the Cyprus issue. "Britain knows very well the yesterday and the present of Cyprus. The Republic of Cyprus, which was founded jointly with the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot forces and guarantor powers were Turkey, Greece and Britain, collapsed on December 21, 1963 due to the dream of the Greek Cypriots to make it a Greek island. The now so-called Republic of Cyprus is a Greek state," he said.

He reiterated the "Greek-Greek duo" and that the process in Kranz Montana collapsed "due to the attitude of the Greek Cypriot side for federation". "In Cyprus there are two separate states. By not admitting this you are not serving peace but the Greek Cypriot side," he said.

"The statement that excludes our sovereign equality and the existence of two states is a pro-Greek attitude. We reject it and call on Britain on the right track," Mr Saner concluded.
