Filenews 17 September 2021
As of 1 January 2021, all chemicals containing chemicals harmful to health and sold to consumers within the EU must have a UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) code, stated in a statement transmitted by the TAO clarifying that some of the products placed on the market in a local store are likely not yet to have a UFI code, as for products placed on the EU market before 2021, companies have until the beginning of 2025 to add this code.
Clarifying that based on the statistical data collected by the European Poison Control Centres, in about 40% of the calls received, the Center has difficulty in quickly and accurately locating the product related to the accident, it is added that as a solution came up the idea of the UFI code, it is reported that the person in charge of the Poison Control Center can, if he knows the code, locate in the database, to which he has access, all the relevant information and provide immediately and effectively the appropriate advice / treatment.
The UFI code must always be located in a conspicuous place on the product label, next to its trade name or hazard information, such as the warning symbol of danger and advice on the safe use of the product, or it may also be in the form of a sticker but in any case it should not be placed at the bottom of the package.
Products that may carry a UFI code are cleaning and maintenance products that are used both indoors, such as kitchen or bathroom, and outdoors, or be products for cleaning cars, shoes, etc.
Laundry and dishwashing detergents, fabric emollients, space flavourings, air fresheners, scented candles, painting and handicraft products such as paints, corrective liquids, adhesives, e-cigarette liquids, garden chemicals, fuels, such as liquids for lighters and fuel for lamps, inks and toners for printers, adhesives.
On cosmetic labels, such as hair dyes, shampoos etc, or on pharmaceuticals, there is no UFI code as these products are controlled by different legislation.
