Its established place, near the entrance of the Limassol Public Garden, was taken again this year by the traditional Wine Festival.
The placement, which took place on Monday afternoon accompanied by wine songs by the choir "Arianes", to mark the proximity of the wine festival.
This year the event celebrates its 60th elections and will take place from October 9 to October 16, 2021.
At a press conference for the Wine Festival, the Mayor of Limassol Nikos Nikolaidis mentioned that this year's Wine Festival will take place with all pomp, and the Municipality will surpass itself so that people can enjoy it more than ever before, even with some imposed restrictions.
"The Wine Festival, happy and open-hearted, invites us back to the Wine Festival. After last year's absence due to the pandemic, the biggest popular festival in Cyprus, The Wine Festival, is coming back, more dynamic, impressive, but at the same time in a responsible way in relation to public health," he said.
According to Mr. Nikolaidis, during the 8 days of the celebration, there will be:
1. Impressive opening and closing ceremonies at the Garden Theatre
2. Upgraded program with popular performances every night. Dozens of artists, bands and groups from Cyprus and Greece will entertain the world every night. At the opening ceremony we will have the opportunity to enjoy the dance groups that will take part in the Euro-Mediterranean Festival that will begin on Tuesday, October 5 and will end on the opening day of the Festival.
3. All performances will start at 7.30 so that people can then go and eat and have fun in 4 outdoor restaurants with unique folk music at each and with affordable prices and high levels of quality and hygiene.
4. There will be a kiosk where the wineries will sell bottled wine at special prices and a kiosk where bottled Commandaria will be sold from our Commandarohoria.
5. We will have photography and cartoon exhibitions and lectures on wine production this year.
6. The Public Garden will be artistically illuminated and decorated theatrically. A large screen measuring 3m.x5m. will be set up opposite the breech to present images and videos from the 60-year course of the Wine Festival.
7. This year the Wine Festival goes to the wine villages of our province. It will be accompanied on the first and last Sunday with two events, the first on 10/10 early afternoon in the traditional wine village of Arsos and the second in Commandarohori Doros. We will have the opportunity to taste the genuine hospitality of our villages with wine, dishes, palouze and siousiouko.
8. And of course for our little friends there will be karagiozis performances and exhibitions of traditional professions.
9. On the occasion of 60 years, collectible wine glasses will be sold.
A few words about the protection measures against the pandemic that will be in force, based on the guidelines given to us by the Ministry of Health:
1. The entrance to the Public Garden will be allowed upon presentation of a Safe Pass, as provided for in regulation No. 82 of the Decree of the Minister for Health dated 3.9.21.
2. For the performances that will take place at the Municipal Garden Theatre "Marios Tokas", the measures for the possibility of attendance of more than 350 spectators will apply, who at this stage require entry only for vaccinated people.
3. In the area of the Public Garden there will be 4 large outdoor restaurants, the operation of which will be governed by the regulations and the applicable decrees.
4. The use of a protective face mask is mandatory for all persons 12 years of age or older who will move in the Public Garden, in accordance with regulation 49 of the decree of the Minister of Health dated 3.9.2021.
The price of the Festival ticket is €5 for adults and €3 for teenagers and children from 6 to 18 years old.
The entrance ticket also ensures free entrance to the garden theatre's performances, as well as a discount on all bottles. The Wine Festival continues to maintain its own online presence on the internet and on Facebook. A big thank you to the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and for this year's assistance to the Wine Festival.
The inauguration of the celebration will take place on Saturday, October 9 at 8.00 p.m. by the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mrs. Natasha Pilidou.
