From €85, the extrajudicial for smoking in a prohibited area, for failure to place a sign in a smoking-free area, for smoking indoors or indoors and for obstructing officers in the performance of their duties is increased to €300.
The above is provided for by a law proposal submitted by the Member of Parliament for Ecologists, Charalambos Theopempto, to the Parliament. According to the explanatory memorandum accompanying the bill, its purpose is to amend the Extrajudicial Regulation of Offences Law, so that the relevant Table of the one that includes the extrajudicial regulation of offences defined in the Health Protection (Smoking Control) Laws of 2017 and 2021 and the Health Protection (Tobacco Control) Regulations of 2017
With a second law proposal of the same MP, the term "open outdoor space", where smoking is allowed, is defined as the space which is not internal or closed, is not enclosed by walls, has at least three sides of it permanently open without any side opening or closing at the administrator's will and does not communicate with an internal space.
At the same time, as far as the sale of tobacco products to underage persons is concerned, the axe falls heavy by replacing the amount of the fine from €2,000 to €3,000. In case of a subsequent conviction of the same person for an offense, according to the provisions of the paragraph, a prison sentence of up to six months or a fine not exceeding €3,000) or both of these penalties is provided for, while in some cases the fine reaches up to €5,000.
As far as tutoring schools and private or public educational institutions of Higher and Higher Education are concerned, smoking is prohibited except for designated open outdoor areas, which are indicated by the management of higher and higher education institutions and which are not allowed to be at the entrance or exit of the institution of Higher and Higher Education.
