Twenty-four hours after the car accident near Kathikas, in Peyia, the Police managed to confirm the identity of the woman who was hit by a car and is being treated in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital. This is the British woman Jill Garen, 63, who lives with her husband in the community of Arodes.
Authorities had found some end of the thread since Sunday and were working in a certain direction, searching for the identity of the woman in the Kathikas-Arodes area. Finally, the identity of the injured woman was confirmed late on Sunday night, while it is worth noting that in addition to the traffic accident, the Police are now also investigating the case of an intra-family incident that prompted the 63-year-old to be at the specific point of the road where she was hit by the passing vehicle.
This fact was also confirmed by the spokesman of the Pafos Police Department, Michalis Ioannou, who stated that the Police possesses testimony that there had been an incident of domestic violence that apparently prompted the 63-year-old to leave her home and walk at the scene of the accident at the time in question.
Mr Ioannou said the 63-year-old's husband has been arrested and taken into custody on the basis of this testimony.
The serious road accident occurred at 8 o'clock on Saturday night on the main road Kathikas-Peyia, near Arodes. The woman was attempting to cross the road when, under conditions investigated by the Traffic Police, a rental car swept her away and injured her. A couple of French tourists were in the car, informed the Police, remaining at the scene until the arrival of the police.
The spokesman of the Pafos Police Department also revealed that the accident was preceded by another incident in which a 46-year-old resident of the area passing by the spot with his vehicle, barely avoided the 63-year-old and got out of his car to see if he needed help. At that very moment, however, the rental vehicle appeared that collided with the unfortunate woman.
An arrest warrant was issued against the 30-year-old driver of the vehicle and he was arrested to facilitate police examinations.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Paphos Hospital, where on-duty doctors found that she had injuries to many parts of her body and her state of health was critical. She was transferred the same night to Nicosia General Hospital and admitted to the ICU where she is fighting for her life.
