206 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Tuesday

Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 518, according to today's announcement by the Ministry of Health.


In parallel, 141 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 39 are in serious condition. 80.15% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

9 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

A total of 45,712 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

As stated in the announcement, 206 (positivity rate: 0.45%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 117,197.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • A man, aged 67, who ended up on September 6th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 70 years, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 518, of which:

  • 336 men (65%), and
  • 182 women (35%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 141 patients of the COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 39 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 39 patients who are in serious condition, 18 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 18 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 45,712 diagnoses performed today, 5,627 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 40,085 by the antigen rapid test method, 206 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 32 cases from 280 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 6 cases from 2,501 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 42 cases from 2,324 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 248 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 270 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 92 cases from 29,484 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 24 cases from 10,601 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 4 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
