182 NEW CASES, FIVE DEATHS - Wednesday

Five people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 523, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

As announced by the competent Ministry, 182 new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 117,379. The positivity rate is 0.37%.

In addition, 131 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 34 are in serious condition, while 80.92% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

According to the Ministry of Health, 10 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

Meanwhile, a total of 48,588 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The five people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • Woman, aged 81, who ended up on September 7th at Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 75, who ended up on September 7th in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.
  • A woman, aged 95, who ended up today at the Limassol General Hospital.
  • A woman, aged 78, who ended up today at Paphos General Hospital.
  • A woman, aged 72, who ended up today at Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 523, of which:

  • 337 men (64%), and
  • 186 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 131 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 34 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 34 patients who are in serious condition, 16 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 15 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 48,588 diagnoses performed today, 5,454 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 43,134 by the antigen rapid test method, 182 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 25 cases from 206 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 5 cases from 2,618 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 31 cases from 2,139 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 296 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case from 195 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 79 cases from 22,373 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 34 cases from 20,761 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
