174 NEW CASES, 3 DEATHS - Thursday

Another three deaths due to coronavirus were announced today by the Ministry of Health, while the positive cases stood at 174.

Specifically:

  • Three people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 526.
  • 119 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 37 are in serious condition. 80.68% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 12 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 56,956 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 174 (positivity rate: 0.31%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 117,553.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • A man, aged 99, who ended up on September 8th at the Limassol General Hospital.
  • A woman, aged 74, who ended up on September 8th at the Limassol General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 64, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 526, of which:

  • 339 men (64%), and
  • 187 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 119 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 37 are in serious condition or in PPE conditions.

Of the 37 patients who are in serious condition, 16 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 19 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 56,956 diagnoses made today, 4,796 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 52,160 by the antigen rapid test method, 174 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 17 cases from 181 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 8 cases from 2,353 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 30 cases from 2,041 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 148 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 82 cases from 31,342 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 29 cases from 20,818 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 63 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 10 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
